MUNICIPAL ETHICS
Town of Westmore: Municipal Ethics
The State of Vermont adopted Act 171 (H.875) in the summer of 2024, establishing a municipal ethics framework for the local governments of the state. The state-adopted Municipal Ethics Code can be found here.
That legislative act established a statewide municipal code of ethics, and allows the State Ethics Commission to provide municipalities with training and support services. It also requires municipalities to investigate and record ethics complaints, which can be filed by the public either with the municipality itself or with the State Ethics Commission.
The Act also mandated the appointment of an Ethics Liaison between the Town and the State, as well as required ethics training for all municipal officers.
For more information about Act 171 (Municipal Code of Ethics), and all that is now required, please visit the State of Vermont's Ethics Commission website.
